    Fun with Felt

    Starting at: £6.95

Felt is probably the oldest fabric made by man. As the next step from wearing the animal’s skin alone, taking its hair and pressing it together to form a fabric is logical. Spinning and from there weaving, knitting and the many forms of using yarns are likely to have followed rather later. So, in working with felt, we are using one of the oldest fabrics there is. But it has come right up to the modern age, without losing its essential qualities. We did look briefly at making knitted felt in issue 161 and will look at this again soon. For this Masterclass though, we are going to look at modern machine-made felt and how to use it for appliqué. Learn More

    Growing Christmas Trees Bell Pull,

    Starting at: £6.95

Combining the lovely ‘Magic’ Canvas from Zweigart, which, in this case has built-in sparkle, with an old stitch widely used in Finland and other Scandinavian countries, made the creation of these Christmas trees a pleasure. To not feel I had to cover the canvas saved time, thread and energy: indeed it would be a pity to do so, as the fabric is delightful in itself. Beyond that, the Rya stitch used is simple and the work grows quite quickly. Learn More
