Friesian Sampler
This ornate sampler is typical of the Dutch style from the eighteenth century and even the region can be pin-pointed to that of Friesland, one of the northern provinces. What makes it so easy to ascertain the design’s origin is to look at the capital A which has a line or ‘hat’ at its apex. There are many other Friesian characteristics in the design but it surely will be most enjoyed for its intricate looking letters and subtle muted shades that give it a truly historical look.Design count 167 stitches wide x 235 stitches highDesign size on 28 count Cashel: 11.9 ins x 16.8 ins (30.3 cms x 42.6 cms).
