Stitch Direct Frequently Asked Questions

What's in a pack?

At Stitch Direct we manufacturer embroidery kits under the Mary Hickmott Designs brand. We are proud of only using top quality materials in these packs. We also provide pre-sorted threads on all our Cross Stitch packs and other technique packs where appropriate. Below is a guide to the four pack types we offer for our designs. Use the guide to help you choose the best products for you.

Materials Packs Chart Packs

Materials packs contain the Zweigart fabric, Anchor threads and the needle(s) required to work the design. Additional, alternative or omitted items are listed in the item description. These packs do not contain a chart or instructions for the design as many of our customers are subscribers to New Stitches or Cross Stitch Gallery magazines and already have the chart inside these publications. To recognise one of these packs look for the description: materials only pack.

Chart packs contain just the chart(s), instructions and a colour picture. There is a full list of all materials needed including colour alternatives giving DMC shades for designs originally worked in Anchor threads where appropriate. To recognise one of these packs look for the description: chart only pack.
Kits Project Packs

Project packs contain the Zweigart fabric, Anchor threads and the needle(s) required to work the design as well as any copies of New Stitches or Cross Stitch Gallery magazines needed for the chart(s). Additional, alternative or omitted items are listed in the item description. To recognise one of these packs look for the description: materials pack including chart.

Kits contain the Zweigart fabric, Anchor threads and the needle(s) required to work the design as well as the chart(s), instructions and a colour picture. Additional, alternative or omitted items are listed in the item description. To recognise one of these packs look for the description: complete kit.

Will I need a chart?

Kits contain everything you need to work a pattern: fabric, threads, needle and chart. We also sell materials packs for readers of New Stitches and Cross Stitch Gallery; these packs only contain the materials required to stitch the pattern and do not include the chart. They do not include the chart as readers of our magazines may already own the chart, thus we sell them the materials pack at a slightly cheaper price. Please do not buy a materials pack unless you are absolutely sure you already own the chart.

Many of your designs were originally featured in New Stitches or Cross Stitch Gallery magazines. How do I know which issue they appeared in?

Many of the item descriptions refer you to the back issue each pattern was previously printed in. If this is missing you can also tell from the item's product code as the first 3 digits refer to the issue of New Stitches in which the design appeared, e.g 056001K means it appeared in New Stitches issue 56, 143001 means it appeared in New Stitches issue 143.
A 'G' in front of a kit code means the design was from Cross Stitch Gallery magazine. So G5003 is from Cross Stitch Gallery issue 50.

I can't work on 18 count can I have it in 14 count instead?

We can swap the kit fabric provided we have the required alternative in stock but there is an additional charge of £5.00. Please telephone us for more information. We are looking at a way to give you more choice on the colours and counts you can choose to have in your kits and will integrate this into our web site as soon as possible.
I don't want to buy a pack of 6 cards of the same colour/aperture, can I mix the colours/apertures?

Previously we only sold cards in packs of 6 of the same colour and aperture. We now sell all cards singly, not in packs.

I have no use for 6 cards can I buy 3?

See above. After listening to feedback we have decided to sell cards singly, so you can order as many or as few as you wish.

If I order over £100 worth of goods can I have 2 free gifts.

Only one free gift per order.

I've put a product code onto the web site but it says the item isn't there.

It's possible the product code has changed, or we no longer stock that item. Please email stitchdirect@ccpuk.co.uk or telephone us on 01227 750215.

If I buy all the Knot Gardens can I have a discount?

Many of our products have special offers associated with them. These are shown on the product pages. However we are always prepared to discuss discounts on special orders.

I'm making key rings for my local charity. If I buy lots of a single item can I have a discount?

Yes, we can usually offer a discount on large purchases of a single item. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Do you have a shop we can visit?

Not at the present time, but we do attend a number of consumer shows throughout the year.
